HARTFORD, Jul.17, 2019 – – – Japan Society of Greater Hartford (JSGH), CT has been awarded
Foreign Minister’s Commendation for FY2019.
The award is provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and JSGH is one of 63 groups around the world chosen for their outstanding contributions to promote understanding between Japan and the other countries.
“This shows the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan has recognized the continuous effort of our volunteers and the support from our members and friends to further our goals through the event like the annual Japan Summer Festival in West Hartford,” said Mas Hongoh, President of JSGH. “Although Hartford is somewhat remote from big cities like NYC and Boston, we will keep our good practices going and stay focused on working with the community.”
JSGH, IRS 501(c)(3) recognized NPO, aims to promote mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the US, through the community participation such as New Year Ceremony, Japan Summer Festival, Fall Picnic, and monthly NIHONGO Night, and introduce Japanese and American cultures, old and new.
JSGH is planning to donate cherry trees to Gillette Castel State Park next year, and currently working on the Beginner’s Japanese Course to be offered to the public.
