Dear friends and members of JSGH,
Our 6th Annual Summer Festival will be held at Blueback Square in West Hartford on Saturday, June 15th (rain date 16th). Staff members have been steadily preparing for the event. Also, JSGH is planning to donate cherry trees, which will be sent from Japan. The site to plant these “Yoshino” cherry trees would be “Gillet Castle State Park” who has had close relationships with Japan. We will wait two long years of quarantine period in the U.S. imagining the beautiful sight these cherry trees will give us.
At the Festival our familiar programs, such as Taiko (Japanese drum) performance, Lion Dance, Origami Workshop, Sumi-e and Haiku (black and white painting using the Japanese calligraphy brush), Yukata experiences and Tea Ceremony, will be done by different groups, and that may be of your interest. Also as commemorating the 2020 Tokyo Olympic, there will be a performance, named “Tokyo 2020,” by the Hartford Japanese Language School students, and a new thing this year is “Japan Folk tales with Balloons,” where there will be a story-telling of Japanese folk tales and she will make balloons for that story. You can purchase the end products at the site.
In order to do all these programs well, we are once again appealing for contributions from people like you. Your donations will be fully tax deductible, and also you can use PayPal for the payment.
